House of 1000 Corpses
This week I watched a movie called House of 1000 Corpses. This is a movie written and produced by Rob Zombie. If you look at it for its purely gruesome nature and measure it based on shock value, then you have a winner.
I am not a super hardcore gore kind of guy. I am more of a scare the shit out of me and leave me feeling hopeless at the end kind of guy. This movie had a bit more blood and guts then I normally enjoy but at least it did entertain me with the other aspects that I enjoy.
I did feel like I was watching a regurgitated version of an all-time favorite classic, Texas Chainsaw massacre. I mean c’mon, it was basically the same story. And of course, it has Ed Gein influence all over it.
The House of 1000 Corpses was pretty hard core for me. I did enjoy it. I won’t be in a huge hurry to see it again, it’s not my sub-genre of horror.
A big take away that I got are that I could probably write that kind of horror into my stories and do it with less gratuitous gore. I think the same effect could be achieved more creatively but showing less. Just my opinion.
