The Exorcist

The Exorcist

I grew up watching The Exorcist. As a youngster, this movie was a horrifying experience for me. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the thrill of the horror.

Demonic possession must be one of the scariest types of haunting for me to read or watch. In these stories, there is a complete loss of control by the possessed. Usually, the victim will slowly slip into a possessed state and surrender all free will and sense of reality. Once possessed, they will change.

I think these changes that the victim undergo are the worst part for me. That is the type of horror that scares me the worst. When someone loses control and then their body changes. Whether is possession or surgical alteration or something alien, body mutilation freaks me out.

In The Exorcist, what bothered me the most was how the young girl Regan changed. Everything changed, voice, eyes, skin, and teeth. She even spun her head and crawled on walls. As a child experiencing this movie for the first time I was stunned and traumatized by this movie. I had sleepless nights for months.

Obviously, I got over it when I became an adult, or did I  ?
